Web credit payments startup Square announced that it hired Amrita Ahuja to replace the outgoing Sarah Friar as the company’s chief financial officer.
Ahuja was previously CFO at Activision Blizzard Inc., in addition to holding significant roles at several other firms such as Disney, Fox Networks Group and Morgan Stanley. Ahuja held the CFO position at Activision Blizzard for eight years.
Friar left Square last October to lead social network Nextdoor.com.
Ahuja will report to Square CEO Jack Dorsey, who also holds the same position at Twitter. Dorsey’s dual leadership at both companies means he will be leaning on Ahuja to help him run Square.
“In Amrita, we have found an amazing, multidimensional business leader, said Dorsey in a statement. “Amrita brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across our entire business, and she will help strengthen our disciple as we invest, build and scale.”
Adds Ahuja, “I’m incredibly inspired by Square’s purpose as it has personal resonance for me,” said Amrita. “My parents were the type of entrepreneurial business owners for whom Square was created. I believe Square is building the most innovative commerce ecosystem for sellers and consumers, and I am excited to help the company execute against this massive opportunity.”
