TrendKite, a growing Austin, Texas based startup which makes software for public relations firms, has been acquired by Cision, the Chicago based PR company for $225 million.
TrendKite was launched in 2012 by A.J. Bruno and Matt Allison. It helps communications firms to quantify the business value of their marcomms campaigns. Cision hopes buying TrendKite will realize its vision for Earned Media Management, or unifying tech, data, measurement and analysis to modernize the comms function from a liability to a business strength.
“TrendKite and Cision share the same mission of helping clients improve the results of earned media campaigns,” said TrendKite’s CEO Erik Huddleston in a statement. “Combining our offerings and capabilities with Cision’s comprehensive earned media platform will allow us to powerfully impact the marketing communications industry and provide best-in-class PR and communications solutions.” Huddleston will become CEO of Cision when the deal closes.
TrendKite raised $46 million in funding, according to Austin Inno. Its list of investors includes Mercury Fund, Harmony Partners, Adams Street Partners and Battery Ventures.
